Density Measurement Float Kit

The density measurement float kit can be used to continuously monitor the density of fuel stored in underground and aboveground storage tanks. Now the same LL2 magnetostrictive probe that provides inventory management or leak detection capabilities can also supply product density without additional probes or sensors. This valuable option can be used to validate the consistency of fuel drops from suppliers and to alert the user of potentially hazardous misdeliveries to the wrong tank. Programmable high and low limits allow the user to determine the range of expected density fluctuations.

In addition, density measurement floats are supported by the T5 Series Fuel Management Systems. These can be set up to notify the user of density alarms in a variety of ways, including printing or e-mailing notifications, sounding internal or external horns, and/or disabling the submersible pump.

The density measurement float kit consists of one 3-inch product float and one 4-inch density float, with an optional 4-inch water float included.

Features/Capabilities

  • For UST and AST application using 4” riser pipes.
  • Density floats are constructed of nitroohyl and nickel plated.
  • Measurement accuracy of ±1.0 kg/m³.
  • Measurement resolution of ±0.1 kg/m³.
  • Minimum detectable product level with water float is 10.70”.
  • Minimum detectable product level without water float is 6.70”
  • Density measurement is available on the TS-5 Series Fuel Management Systems.
  • Requires TSP-LL2-XXX or XXX-I magnetostrictive probes with serial number 600000 or greater.
  • Contact Franklin Fueling Systems for information on density measurement of other products.

Theory of Operation

Density measurement is based on the distance between the calibrated product and density floats. As the density of the fuel changes, the gap between the floats will increase or decrease in proportion to the change. The tank gauge receives this information from the probe and uses it to calculate and display the current density of the fuel.
